More About MAYF

Photo of Mr. Nduka Ozor: CoordinatorMr. Nduka Ozor came up with the idea of organising a youth run organisation to explain the possible causes of the unexplainable deaths in the community of Mgbala Agwa in 2001. Mgbala Agwa is a rural village in the Oguta Local Government of Imo State, which is south east of Nigeria. The founding members involved in the formation of MAYF are Anslem Onongbo, Elias, Kennedy Ogbonna, Walter Onyenweokwu, Cajethan Ahanotu, and Nduka Ozor. At that time, the death rate was very high. Mr. Ozor thought that youths should be educated about HIV/AIDS as these were the possible causes of all the deaths, and to warn them of the dangers ahead if they continued to live their life. Because of these tragedies, Mgbala Agwa Youth Forum started up as a forum to discuss and create awareness of issues, and to build up facilities. The issues of discussion are health (particularly in regards to HIV/AIDS and STI’s), environmental protectionism, how to alleviate poverty, and how to empower youths especially by promoting the benefits of education. We are affiliated with the United Nations Online Volunterring program. To learn more about the MAYF director, visit his profile or read his blog at at TakingITGlobal.
